According to Urban Dictionary; “turn up” is the act of getting drunk and high and being reckless so “turn down” would mean sobering up.
First things first, being drunk, high & reckless isn’t a good look for anyone. Having a good time is one thing, but overdoing it can be a disaster. But, for the purpose of this article my definition of sober means more than the mere opposite of being drunk or high. Sober means that you are thinking clearly, being responsible & making wise choices for the betterment of yourself & others.
So let’s explore three reasons to turn down.
1. Relaxation is good for the soul. Everyone needs rest. Our bodies were made to have a cycle of rest every 24 hours. That is by Divine design. Turn down your bed covers and go to sleep. Sleep refreshes you physically, mentally and emotionally.
2. Partying can be an expensive pastime. Turning down is an excellent way to save money & face. How many people have turned up & regretted it no less than a few hours later? Turn down unnecessary spending & bad habits to build on your goals & future. You will appreciate your efforts in the long-run. Many people have vices, just don’t let the vices have you. Never be a slave to anything outside of yourself.
3. Focus on what matters most. Turn down the TV, social media & radio so that you can entertain what’s truly important. You, your livelihood & your loved ones. Engage people in conversation and active listening. G Quality time breeds intimacy and closeness. Nurture & love others fully. Practice healthy habits in all areas. Take care of yourself; heart, mind, body and soul.
Sometimes we are so anxious to escape our lives by ‘turning up’. I’ve learned the best thing that we could ever do for ourselves is to create a life that we don’t need to escape from.
So go ahead and turn down, at least for tonight.
