We engage you… Entertainment, Encouragement, Inspiration, Education and Shenanigans. All on one blog!
Oprah has acknowledged that her recently launched TV network, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) is struggling, but she is determined NOT to quit. Personally, I love OWN. The network has informative, inspiring and uplifting television content. I am always encouraged to be a better version of myself after watching many of her shows. Her life lessons are full of practical truths and wisdom that you can apply to your every day life.
Among my favorite shows are; Our America with Lisa Ling, Oprah’s Next Chapter, and Masterclass (which featured Grant Hill on the most recent show that aired on Sunday April 1, 2012). I have always admired Oprah and I think much of her success is due to the fact that she is consistently authentic and real. She gives honest glimpses into her failures and triumphs, and many can relate to that. I also believe people can see that she is unrelenting when it comes to her purpose.
“I’m a very driven person. I believe that I am here to fulfill a calling. That, because I am a female, who is African American, who has been so blessed in the world, there is never going to be a time to quit. I will die in the midst of doing what I love to do — that is, using my voice and using my life to try to inspire other people to live the best in theirs.” -Oprah Winfrey
Another thing that endears me to Oprah is that fact that she is no stranger to failure. Her road to success has not always been easily traveled, but I believe that she has learned so many valuable lessons along the way & made wise decisions as a result of her failures. She didn’t give up on her dreams because something didn’t happen just the way she planned. She didn’t stop being true to who she was because of rejection and ridicule. She kept going and the result is simply Oprah Winfrey, a name that is synonymous with greatness & empowerment across the world.
You too have the power to be great in your own way. Be authentic, be true & walk in your purpose. Despite failure and mistakes, you are important and there is something special & unique that only you have been born to do. You have a voice, and someone needs to hear it. You have a gift, and someone needs to experience it. You have a purpose, and someone will be empowered by it.
“Because you failed at something — which, we haven’t failed,” she said, looking at the camera briefly — “but because you failed, does not make you a failure. And when you know that in the core of yourself, you can keep trying, or you can use whatever is happening in that moment to say, ‘Maybe I need to move in a new direction.’”-Oprah Winfrey
I hope that OWN continues for many years to come. It is truly one of my favorite channels and I enjoy watching it every day. For more on Oprah’s OWN regrets and mistakes click here.
